Salve-Making, July 2011

Jon Pittman, a Cherokee Master Gardener & Herbalist, and Mantle Rock Elder Stella Brown, built upon the herbal teaching into the practice of salve-making.

The morning began with Momfeather Erickson leading the Ripe Corn Ceremony, around the sacred fire lit by Mantle Rock Elder Karen DeWitt and among the grandmother cedars.Over 20 people gathered in prayer of thanks for the growing Corn which will offer nourishment to the People in the months ahead and in honor and remembrance of Mantle Rock Board Member, Bill Brown.

Several adults patiently enjoyed a day long workshop on salve-making the required hours of cooking down the herbs. An icy/hot salve and a healing salve recipe were shared and prepared. Each person received two jars of each salve made.

We really appreciated the new faces and the children who attended. Learn more about Momfeather's story and to purchase this teaching DVD, visit our online shop.
